BOTOX® For Wrinkles & Facial Contouring/ Jaw & Calf Slimming/ Hyperhydrosis

Botox® is a trade name for a protein derived from botulism toxin A that is injected underneath skin in order to minimize or smooth out lines and wrinkles on the face. Basically, the compound blocks the signals that would normally tell your muscles to contract. The FDA approved procedure can also be performed to change the shape of your face or brows or create a lifted effect, especially around the eye area. The treatment is also used for slenderizing bulky calves and can help limit excessive perspiration for the hands and underarms.

Pre procedure Information

How Long Does It Last?

In general Botox® injections for wrinkles last 3 to 4 months depending on the individual and the area treated. However, the protocol for slenderizing square jaws is two bouts of injections 3 months apart and then annual booster shots to maintain the results if desired.

What do I need to do

About The Procedure

After your consultation with Dr Chan, the area to be treated will be iced to numb any slight discomfort from the injections and minimize the risk of bruising. A syringe with a very fine needle will be used to make the injections over the treatment area. Once the procedure is completed, our staff will fix an appointment for a review in a week’s time. For treatment of hyperhydrosis, a 30-minute starch and iodine test needs to be performed over the treatment area to identify the problem areas first.

Post Procedure & Recovery

Once the procedure is completed, our staff will fix an appointment for a review in a week’s time. You may be asked to work the muscles treated for about 30 minutes to an hour after the procedure to ensure better absorption of the Botox® into the muscles treated.

Will There be Any Pain/Discomfort?

Any discomfort experienced is very minimal as the injections needles used are very fine and the procedure is very short and quick. Icing the treatment area is also usually sufficient to mask patient discomfort.

What Activities am I allowed To do

You will be able to go about your scheduled activities as per normal.

What should I avoid

Please avoid saunas, steam baths, facials and taking blood thinners or painkillers for the first week.

Potential risk and complications

As with any other injections, bruising is normal but uncommon. Any slight bruising should resolve within a few days.
