Coolglide Excel For Veins & Hair Removal

Cutera Coolglide Excel laser is the latest in FDA approved laser technology for treating veins and laser hair removal. The handpiece contains a cooling device which lowers the skin temperature before the laser beam strikes it, allowing for more comfortable treatments.

Pre procedure Information

How Long Does It Last?

Each treatment lasts approximately 15 minutes. For hair removal, a course of at least 5 to 6 sessions spaced out between 3 to 6 weeks is recommended depending on thickness and density of hair growth. For effective hair removal, multiple sessions are needed due to the phases of hair growth. At any time, only the hairs in the active phase can be effectively treated. For removal of veins, 3 to 5 sessions will likely be needed depending on the type and severity of the problem. The majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months. Once treatment goals are achieved, results are lasting but may require occasional maintenance sessions for some individuals.

About The Procedure

After a consultation, a topical anesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area and then cleaned off just prior to the procedure. A cold gel will be spread on and then the CoolGlide handpiece is applied to the skin for further cooling. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. After each shot, the cooling handpiece is applied again to soothe to treated area.

About the Machine

The Cutera Excel CoolGlide is a long-pulse Nd:YAG laser with a built-in cooling system. It is an excellent laser for permanent hair reductions on all skin types, including tanned skin and is effective for treatment of pseudofolliculitis barbae (ingrown hairs), year-round. The laser is also able to effectively treat a wide range of vascular conditions, including leg veins.

Post Procedure & Recovery

After treatment the area may be red with minor swelling and feel hot and smart for a short period. The application of a soothing anti-inflammatory usually helps take away any discomfort. For hair removal, 3 to 7 days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

Will There be Any Pain/Discomfort?

During the procedure there usually is a bearable sensation of heat on the area being treated. The slight smarting sensation should fade within 30 minutes post-treatment.

What Activities am I allowed To do

You should be able to return to your normally scheduled activities immediately.

What should I avoid

You are recommended to stay out of the sun and ensure that you use sunblock on treated areas that are exposed.

Potential risk and complications

For vein removal there may be some bruising as the blood from the treated vein can seep into the surrounding tissue post treatment. However, this is likely to be very limited and resolved within a few days to a week.

Any residual numbness is likely to be the result of the numbing cream used and should fade within an hour or so.

Additional FAQ

FAQ1 How does spider vein removal work?

Answer 1 The laser delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be.
