Pre procedure Information
How Long Does It Last?
The results achieved from the treatment series can be expected to last for one to two years or longer depending on factors like genetics, care taken and previous damage already done. However, with the passage of time and with environmental exposure, skin will continue to age and deteriorate. IPL Photo rejuvenation will provide benefits and significantly reverse many of the visible signs of sun-damaged skin. The improvement that has been achieved following a first series of five treatments can be maintained by occasional single maintenance treatments.
What do I need to do
For photo rejuvenation procedures as well as hair removal procedures, please avoid excessive sun exposure for about a fortnight before if you are intending to have the treatment immediately after as a tan can adversely affect the results. 1 to 2 days prior to hair removal procedures please shave the treatment area in preparation for the procedure.
Am I suitable
During the consultation, the doctor will assess your skin for suitability for the treatment and make his recommendations.
How long will I need to take off work
You will not need to take time off work. This procedure is a “no downtime” procedure meaning that you may return to all scheduled activities immediately.

About The Procedure
For photo rejuvenation procedures, a layer of photoconductor gel will be applied to the treatment area and your eyes protected after cleansing and a facial analysis is performed. The appropriate handpiece will be applied to the skin over the areas to be treated and one or two passes will be performed depending on skin type and problem. After the treatment which takes about 15 minutes, the gel is cleansed off and sunblock or moisturizer applied as needed.
For hair removal procedures, a cold gel will be applied prior to the procedure over the area to be treated which needs to have been shaved, ideally a couple of days before treatment. The appropriate handpiece will be applied to the skin over the areas to be treated and one or two passes will be performed depending on skin type and hair density and thickness.
About the Machine
The Ellipse I2PL uses short, safe bursts of light emitted from a flash lamp to treat specific skin conditions. The technology is rather sophisticated but safe. The Ellipse I2PL system very carefully controls the overall delivery of the light – both the amount of light and the speed of its delivery to your specific skin condition. Unlike the limited efficacy of older IPL products previously available, Candela’s new Ellipse system features exclusive I2PL, dual mode filtering technology. I2PL eliminates exposure to potentially harmful wavelengths reducing treatment time and maximizing patient results and comfort.
Post Procedure & Recovery
You will feel temporary warmth and a slight flushing of the treated areas that should fade within the hour. If you wish, you may apply powder or make-up right away.
Will There be Any Pain/Discomfort?
You will experience bright flashes, as well as a slight sensation of heat accompanied by the feeling of a rubber-band snapping against the treated area as the pulses of therapeutic light are passed over your skin. The sensation is very mild and easily tolerated. Topical anesthetic creams are not required but are available for individuals who have a lower pain threshold.
What Activities am I allowed To do
You should be able to resume normal scheduled activities immediately.
What should I avoid
Please stay out of the sun and wear sunblock over treated areas. Do not use exfoliating scrubs on skin for the first week.
FAQ1 will i see results after one treatment and if not then how many treatments will i need?
Answer 1 The majority of people will achieve most of their improvement after five treatments are performed. Improvement is gradual and becomes evident after several treatments have been completed.
