Quanta Discovery Pico
About The Procedure
The PICO-toning treatment by Discovery PICO uses advanced laser technology for the treatment of large pores, skin discoloration, as well as wrinkles and fine lines. During the treatment, the laser penetrates the skin’s outer layer, directly targeting the skin’s mid layers to shrink oil glands, reducing sebum production, as well as stimulate the formation of new collagen and elastin. Pores are tightened and skin looks more matt and refined. Patchiness, discolouration and skin tone unevenness is also addressed so skin looks clearer and brighter. Crepey skin and fine lines are also improved over time. However, the Discovery PICO is not limited only to PICO laser toning, it is primarily a pigment laser and can effectively treat the following conditions as well:
- Wrinkle reduction
- Acne scar reduction
- Non-ablative skin resurfacing
- Tattoo removal (multi-color)
- Benign Pigmented lesion removal
- Vascular lesion treatment
- Dermal Lesions
- Nevus of Ota
What happens to the pigment during the treatment?
The traditional nanosecond Nd:YAG lasers break down pigmented particles into large granules. With advancements in technology, the Discovery PICO is able to emit energy in shorter picosecond pulses which can be safely raised to higher energy levels. The Discovery PICO is also currently the most powerful laser of its class in the market, with the ability to generate consistently higher energy levels even when using large treatment spot sizes. When the picosecond pulses are delivered, it creates a photoacoustic effect to blast pigment into a ‘dust’ which is subsequently much easier for the body’s immune system to eliminate, giving faster and more complete clearance of pigment issues in fewer sessions.
How many treatment sessions does one need and can results be seen even after one treatment?
Results can be seen after one treatment. However, the number of sessions required for every individual is different due to a few factors such as skin colour, type, size of tattoo, colour and density of the tattoo/ pigmented lesions and etc. Generally, patients will require 5 to 10 treatment sessions. A better evaluation can only be given by your physician after seeing how your tattoo/pigmentation responds after the first treatment.
Post Procedure & Recovery
Are there any after effects for PICO-toning treatment i.e. swelling, redness, discomfort?
PICO-toning treatment has no down time. However, after pigment removal treatment for pigmentation or tattoos, which may use different more aggressive settings, you will have mild swelling and redness on the skin surrounding the tattoo or pigmented lesions, but this generally subsides after 30-60 minutes.
Would it be all right to apply makeup? Is there any ingredients in my skincare products which I should avoid?
After PICO-toning, it is best to leave your skin without any make-up on the treatment day, to allow your skin to breathe and heal properly, but you can apply moisturizer and sunscreen to protect your skin after treatment. As for PICO tattoo removal, you should always protect your skin with sunscreen and keep skin on the treated area hydrated especially during the healing period.
What would you advise for patients undergoing such treatment? Is there anything they should take note of after the treatment?
After PICO-laser toning, it is advisable to use a fragrance-free moisturizer on the treated area. Sunscreen protection is crucial on the treated area to complement and preserve your treatment results. It is also recommended to leave skin without make-up on the same day to allow treated skin to breathe and heal properly.
