Silk’N™ Home Ipl System For Hair Removal

A new, FDA-approved, personal light-based hair removal device called Silk’n™ has just been launched in Asia. The hand-held gadget is the first of its kind to hit the market and is meant for home-use under the direction of a physician. IPL hair removal works by targeting dark pigment in the hair shaft which absorbs the light energy delivered, turning it into heat energy that kills or injures the hair follicle. Several sessions are needed to treat the condition because hair has three growth stages in each cycle – active, falling out, or dormant – and only the active hairs can be treated in each cycle. Given the higher energies used in a doctor’s office, professional IPL treatments are strong enough to stop hair growth in active follicles more often. As for traditional IPL, Silk’n works best for lighter-skinned individuals with dark hair.

Will There be Any Pain/Discomfort?

There is slight heat as well as flashes of light emitted by the unit during treatment as well as the sensation of a rubber band snapping against your skin as each shot is fired. Any discomfort can be eased with icing the treatment area well prior to the procedure.
