VASER LipoSelection®
VASER LipoSelection® combines new patented FDA-approved technology with advanced surgical techniques to break up and remove fatty tissue. Unwanted fat can be efficiently removed from abs, arms, back, hips, knees, love handles, neck and chin, saddlebags, thighs – any place you’ve developed a little "extra cushioning."
The VASER System uses ultrasound energy to break up and emulsify fat, leaving surrounding tissue – such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue – relatively intact. Only the VASER LipoSelection® procedure can offer you an experience that is UltraSelective, allowing you to reshape those trouble spots that just won’t respond to diet and exercise with low to minimal pain.
The VASER LipoSelection® procedure uses the VASER System’s patented innovative ultrasound technology for fatty tissue emulsion and proprietary cannulae designed to minimize tissue trauma during aspiration. Because nerves and blood vessels are largely undisturbed, patients and physicians report low to minimal pain and bruising. Moreover, the VASER LipoSelection® procedure allows physicians to work with such precision that they can shape delicate areas like the inner thighs, arms, chin and neck.
Pre procedure Information
How Long Does It Last?
The procedure will likely take 2 to 3 hours inclusive of preparation time and an additional 1 to 2 hours of rest and recovery time in the clinic. Results should emerge over the next 1 to 3 months as swelling over the treatment area subsides to reveal the full result. The results should remain as long as your weight remains fairly constant.
What do I need to do
Come in for a no-obligation, free consultation at our clinic.
Am I suitable
During the consultation, the doctor will assess you for suitability for the treatment and make his recommendations.
How long will I need to take off work
Optimally, you should take a week to rest to speed up your recovery but many patients have returned to work after at least 2 days or rest at home.
Will I need Someone to Arrange accompanied Transport home
Yes. We strongly recommend that you have a trusted friend or relative accompany you home from the clinic and that you absolutely do not drive on the day of the procedure.
About The Procedure
Sedation. Anesthesia may be local, or local with IV sedation – Dr Chan will discuss his preference with you depending on your individual situation.
Infusion. Your doctor creates a tiny incision in the area to be treated. The targeted area is then filled with a special saline solution to make it very wet and full, making the fatty tissue easier to emulsify with the VASER System’s ultrasound energy. This solution includes adrenaline, which shrinks blood vessels to help reduce bleeding and bruising, and lidocaine, an anesthetic agent that helps numb the site to limit discomfort.
Treatment. Your doctor then inserts a thin grooved probe that is unique to the VASER System. The probe disperses ultrasound waves around the grooved tip to break down and emulsify fatty tissue on contact.
Aspiration. Suction and massage of the sculpted site removes emulsified fatty tissue while leaving blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue relatively intact.
About the Machine
The VASER® Lipo System is an impressive technology that maximizes fat extraction without compromising patient comfort and safety. It combines precision fluid management, controlled tissue-selective emulsification via ultrasound technology, patented probe design and proprietary cannulae. By selectively emulsifying fatty tissue prior to removal, the VASER Lipo System enables removal of small volumes of fat for precision contouring or larger volumes for rapid debulking. Different cannula sizes also makes delicate and fibrous areas easier to sculpt and offers the ability to ensure procedures are minimally invasive with fast patient recovery and minimal pain and bruising.
Post Procedure & Recovery
Recovery. Once the numbing effects of the anesthetic agent wear off, you may experience some discomfort. You and your doctor will discuss whether over-the-counter and/or prescription pain medication is right for you. Initially, expect some fluid drainage from your incisions.
Compression Garment. You will wear a compression garment home from the procedure; most doctors will require you to wear such a garment under your clothing for a period ranging from 2-6 weeks post-operatively, depending upon the body area(s) treated and the amount of fat removed. This will provide you with comfort and support, and will help your skin settle to your new contours. It is critical that you follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the wearing of this garment.
Follow-up Appointments. While you may feel and look terrific, it is essential that you keep your follow-up appointments so that your doctor can monitor your progress.
Will There be Any Pain/Discomfort?
After the effect of the local anesthesia fades, there can be some aching and discomfort over the treated area which can be limited with the painkillers that will be prescribed to you. Most of the discomfort would have faded to a dull ache (similar to the ache you might feel for stomach cramps or muscle aches after strenuous exercise) after two days and should be gone by the end of the first week.
What Activities am I allowed To do
You should rest the first week if possible and should be able to return to gentle exercise 2 weeks after the procedure and gradually work your way up from there.
What should I avoid
Avoid swimming for at least 10 days or until the surgical incisions have healed over and stay clear of saunas or hot baths which can worsen bruising and swelling. Also avoid overexertion for the first 2 weeks post-surgery. Avoid sunbathing and tanning as this can result in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation over the incision sites.
Potential risk and complications
Bruising
Bruising at the treatment site is normal and should subside gradually within 2 to 3 weeks. Swelling will, however, take about 1 to 3 months to recede, with some patients needing about 6 months before swelling completely disappears. If you are particularly worried about bruising, you can request for a prescription of Sinnech, which is a homeopathic arnica supplement that we have found useful in limiting bruising in our patients.
NumbNess
Some numbness in the treated areas is normal owing to the local anesthesia infused and also because of the trauma to the surgical site. Sensation should return gradually over the next 3 to 4 weeks but in some cases may take longer.
Additional FAQ
FAQ1 What about future weight gain / fat migrating to other areas?
Answer 1 This is a common misperception. Following your VASER lipo procedure, should you experience weight gain or loss, it will tend to be proportionately distributed over your entire body. Once you have fat removed, it is gone and, assuming a healthy lifestyle of proper diet and exercise, it will not return or migrate. However, because fat is necessary to a healthy body, some essential fat layers in any given site remain untreated. If you do gain a significant amount of weight, the remaining fatty tissue will expand. Normal aging changes can also be expected.
